Beautifully retold folklore and paranormal blend together in an ethereal twist of the erotic in Mystical Mayhem. This is not the first book I’ve read by Howell, and it’s definitely not going to be the last. I was nervous about reading this at first, as the synopsis sounded like it was going to be a forced interaction, but it was nothing like that.

Aiyanna is captured by shapeshifters and becomes the intended sacrifice in one of their darkly twisted sex rituals. The ritual is supposed to manifest another chimera, the paranormal superhuman of the Alaska region. Unexpectedly, Xander (the actual chimera) saves her at the last minute. When he whisks her to safety, they end up spending time together and learn that they were destined to live out their days together, as life mates. Later, war breaks out and Xander must make a decision that will greatly affect the rest of their lives. With the mystical mayhem enveloping them, time is running out and Xander must decide here and now what he wants to do.

I loved the blend of historical legends with the modern concepts of the paranormal. Oh, and those sex scenes? They were so steamy that my glasses fogged up! Light some incense and candles to get in the mystical mood of it all, and join the characters on their journey of erotic exploration into the realm of mythology. Definitely 4 out of 5 stars
